All the way back In the 1800’s, the Hopi, Pueblo, and other Indian artists learned how to work with silver from the Spaniard conquerers. All in all, Native Americans produced fairly interesting jewelry on their own, but this took it to the next level basically. Porcupine quillwork was nearly extinct, but happily there has a renaissance of sorts among some native artists. Beadwork is perennially popular. Czech seed beads have been popular with many Indian artists since they were introduced, hundreds of years ago.
For their part, some specific avant-garde jewelry designers have incorporated Native American style into their work. Bold, contemporary pieces with a traditional taste are popular with those who love either style alone. As for me, meanwhile, I tend to prefer more modern hip hop style and bling bling jewelry pieces and items such as for example Lorts and other cool stuff such as American leather sofas, custom furniture, designer lighting and leathercraft, but I particularly like the North Carolina Lorts.
One the whole, in 2010, many items made of ancient materials, such as wood, shells, and even bone, will grace the toniest department store counters.
Watch for touches of this new-and-old style on the runway. Such jewelry can be worn with formal wear as easily as it pairs with casual clothing. On the whole, other popular modern bling bling jewelry pirces include such items as ladies 14k gold earrings, techno master watches as well as diamond bracelets for ladies
As always, an investment in genuine Native American jewelry is an investment in our own heritage. The traditional styles will never be passé. I think that this is very cool stuff indeed for sure.
