Many new trends have been hitting the medical field lately, including in the areas of breast implants and enlargment. Botox injections that act to paralyze muscles whose activity helps cause wrinkles, leaped from 65,157 treatments in 1997 to more than 2.4 million in 2008, raking in $1 billion.
McNicholas reports that, “The ASAPS boasts more than 2,400 members, mostly in the U.S. and Canada; all U.S. members are plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. BTW if you need assistance with breast implants or augmentation or perhaps reconstruction, give this firm a try. They can assist not only with implants but overall breast enlargement or enhancement. To find the most popular cosmetic surgeries and other industry data for 2008, the ASAPS sent a survey to 16,000 board-certified physicians. A total of 894 (461 plastic surgeons, 277 dermatologists and 156 otolaryngologists) completed the survey in time for tabulation.”
Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Ellenbogen, in practice for more than 30 years, notes the clear trend toward noninvasive procedures. His patients are watching their spending, but are also wary of taking too much time off of work in these scary economic times. However, Dr. Ellenbogen says some of his patients nearing retirement age, but now forced to keep working, believe they need face treatments to compete with younger workers.
It’s not just face lifts, surgeons say patients are less interested in surgical liposuction, which has lost popularity substantially since 2007. That’s due in some measure to less invasive fat-removal procedures such as RejuvaYou's LipoLite laser fat removal. Dr. Shieh wa quoted as saying, "We saw a record business in August because of it. People like LipoLite because they can be back to work in one to two days, versus one to two weeks, and get the same results."
McNicholas notes that despite LipoLite's initial success, liposuction is still the second most popular surgical procedure, taking in more than $900 million in 2008, with more than 341,000 procedures
